A Look Inside Runway Green's Plans for Floyd Bennett Field

October 1, 2026 - 20:13

Runway Green is set to transform Floyd Bennett Field into a vibrant hub for education and sustainability. The initiative will introduce a three-acre farm that aims to engage students and the community in hands-on learning about agriculture and environmental stewardship. This innovative approach combines educational programs with practical experience, allowing participants to cultivate crops and understand the importance of sustainable practices.

In addition to the farm, Runway Green plans to offer a variety of student programs, including partnerships with City University of New York (CUNY) to provide courses that emphasize urban ecology and sustainability. These courses will not only enrich students' academic experiences but also prepare them for future careers in green industries.

The vision for Floyd Bennett Field extends beyond education; it seeks to foster a sense of community and promote ecological awareness. By integrating agriculture with academic pursuits, Runway Green aims to create a model for future educational systems that prioritize environmental responsibility and community involvement. This project could serve as a blueprint for similar initiatives across urban areas, highlighting the potential for education to drive positive change.
