Education standouts, July 27, 2026

The Santa Fe Striders, a local running organization, has awarded scholarships to three student-athletes this year, bringing the total amount given to local youth since 2021 to $30,500. The latest recipients were recognized for their achievements both on the track and in the classroom.

The program, which began five years ago, aims to support high school seniors who have demonstrated strong athletic performance in cross country or track and field, along with academic dedication and community involvement. Each scholarship helps cover college expenses, easing the financial burden for families.

This year's honorees were selected from a competitive pool of applicants. Organizers noted that the quality of candidates continues to rise, reflecting the depth of talent in the Santa Fe area. The Striders rely on donations from members and local businesses to fund the awards.

Since its inception, the scholarship initiative has grown steadily. The first year saw a single award of $2,500, but increased community support has allowed the group to expand both the number of recipients and the amount given. The $30,500 total marks a significant milestone for the program.

The Santa Fe Striders plan to continue the scholarship tradition next year and hope to increase funding further. They encourage local student-athletes to apply when the next application cycle opens in early 2027.
