With archery season already underway and the general hunting season right around the corner, interest in hunter education classes has picked up across the region. Wyoming Game and Fish Department Public Information Specialist Christina Schmidt recently joined Sheridan Media's Public Pulse to talk about where things stand with class availability and what options remain for those who still need certification.
In Sheridan, the situation is tight. Only one spot is still open for the upcoming female-only hunter education course, and that single opening is the last one left in the entire Sheridan region. Schmidt noted that demand has been strong this year, and classes have filled up faster than in previous seasons. She encouraged anyone still hoping to get certified before the fall hunts to act quickly and check the Game and Fish website for any last-minute openings or cancellations.
Hunter education is a required step for many first-time hunters, especially younger participants, and the course covers firearm safety, wildlife identification, and ethical hunting practices. Schmidt reminded listeners that even if the Sheridan class fills up, there are other options, including online coursework paired with a field day in other parts of the state. She also stressed the importance of planning ahead, since spots tend to disappear quickly once the season draws near. For those willing to travel, nearby regions may still have openings worth considering.
