The Hardware Wildlife Education Center has announced a new exhibit for November titled Turkey Tales, offering visitors a closer look at the wild turkey and its place in the landscape.
The exhibit is scheduled to run throughout the month and is designed for families, school groups, and anyone curious about the birds that have become a familiar sight in forests and fields across the region. Displays will cover the basics of turkey biology, including plumage differences between males and females, the function of the snood and wattle, and the social behavior of flocks outside the spring mating season.
Staff at the center say the timing of the exhibit follows the birds' seasonal activity. In late autumn, turkeys gather in larger groups and spend much of their day foraging for nuts, seeds, and insects before winter sets in. Interpretive materials will explain how these habits help the birds survive cold weather and avoid predators.
The center will also host short daily talks and a children's activity table where younger visitors can examine feathers and track casts up close. Organizers hope the exhibit encourages people to observe turkeys responsibly and to appreciate the species beyond its holiday associations.
Admission details and daily hours are available at the center's front desk. Visitors are encouraged to check schedules in advance, as some programs may depend on weather and staffing.
