Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis university town tender to launch in 2 months

Hong Kong's education minister, Christine Choi, announced that the tender for a major university town project within the Northern Metropolis will be launched in approximately two months. The development will occupy a 22-hectare site in Hung Shui Kiu, designed to accommodate three separate university campus sites. Choi stated that the government is finalizing the details of the tender package, which is expected to attract both local and international higher education institutions.

The university town is a key component of the broader Northern Metropolis plan, aimed at transforming the area into a hub for innovation and education. The three campus sites will be developed in phases, with the first phase likely to focus on establishing facilities for science, technology, and research programs. Choi emphasized that the project is intended to strengthen Hong Kong's role as a regional education center and to foster collaboration between academia and industry.

Local officials have expressed optimism that the tender will draw significant interest from universities seeking to expand their presence in the Greater Bay Area. The government is also exploring partnerships with overseas institutions to bring diverse academic expertise to the new campuses.
