Investors who added Laureate Education to their portfolios after the initial surge are now looking at a very different picture than those who bought in early. The stock has climbed 31.5% over the past year, dividends included, but much of that gain came before the crowd arrived. For anyone who treated the company as a watchlist name rather than a holding, the missed opportunity is hard to ignore.
The rally did not happen in a vacuum. Digital enrollments kept rising, the company opened new campuses in Mexico and Peru, and management leaned harder into share buybacks. Those moves gave the stock a tailwind that early holders captured in full. Latecomers, by contrast, paid higher prices for the same story.
The deeper lesson concerns timing and conviction. Laureate's focus on working adult upskilling was visible well before the share price reflected it. Investors who recognized that early had a chance to act before the market caught on. Those who waited for confirmation bought into a stock that had already done most of its work.
None of this means the story is finished. Enrollment trends and buyback programs could still support further gains. But the easy money from the past year has largely been made, and the gap between early believers and recent buyers keeps widening.
