Morgan State to offer bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence this fall

Morgan State University is set to introduce a new Bachelor of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence starting this fall. The program places the historically Black university among a growing list of Maryland institutions offering specialized undergraduate training in the rapidly evolving field.

University officials say the curriculum will cover machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, and robotics, with a strong emphasis on ethical AI development. Students will also study data structures, algorithms, and computational mathematics. The degree is designed to prepare graduates for careers in tech industries, government agencies, and research labs where AI skills are in high demand.

Morgan State joins other Maryland schools like the University of Maryland, College Park and Johns Hopkins University in offering AI-focused degrees. The move reflects a broader push across higher education to meet workforce needs as artificial intelligence reshapes sectors from healthcare to finance.

Administrators expect the program to attract students interested in both the technical and societal impacts of AI. They also plan to integrate the degree with existing engineering and computer science departments, allowing for cross-disciplinary projects. Enrollment details and course schedules are expected to be finalized before the fall registration period.
