October 17, 2025 - 19:05
SOU is stepping up for Oregon’s public schools, as the state faces a critical shortage of licensed special education teachers. Recognizing the growing demand for qualified educators in this vital field, the institution is expanding its special education program to better serve regional needs. This initiative aims to equip more educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to support students with diverse learning requirements.
The expansion includes enhanced training opportunities and resources for aspiring special education teachers, ensuring they are well-prepared to enter the workforce. By focusing on practical experience and comprehensive coursework, SOU aims to create a pipeline of qualified professionals dedicated to improving educational outcomes for students with disabilities.
This proactive approach not only addresses the immediate shortage but also fosters a more inclusive educational environment across Oregon. As schools continue to strive for equity in education, SOU's commitment to bolstering special education resources is a significant step forward in meeting the needs of all students.
