UNT Health and James L. West Center Expand Dementia Education Through New Certification Pathway

Two Fort Worth healthcare organizations have teamed up to create a new training pathway for dementia care. UNT Health Fort Worth and the James L. West Center for Dementia Care are offering a free, online, self-paced certification program designed to help caregivers, families, and health professionals better understand and support people living with dementia.

The program covers a range of topics, including communication strategies, behavioral changes, safety concerns, and day to day care techniques. It is built to be accessible for anyone who interacts with dementia patients, whether they are working in a clinical setting or caring for a loved one at home.

Leaders from both organizations say the partnership reflects a shared goal of improving dementia care across the region. As the population ages, the need for trained caregivers continues to grow, and this certification aims to close that gap by removing cost and scheduling barriers.

Participants can complete the modules at their own speed and receive a certificate once finished. The course is available now to anyone interested in building practical skills for dementia support.
