Law Firm to Host Discussion on Music Copyright a Decade After Blurred Lines

Law Firm to Host Discussion on Music Copyright a Decade After Blurred Lines

The Adams & Reese legal firm will host "10 Years After Blurred Lines: It's All Blurrier Than Ever," a continuing legal education event examining how music copyright law has shifted since the landmark case. The session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Central time, with a live webcast available for remote attendees.

The program will look at the 2015 verdict in the dispute between the estate of Marvin Gaye and Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over the song "Blurred Lines." A jury found that the track borrowed from Gaye's "Got to Give It Up," a decision that reshaped how courts and lawyers approach substantial similarity in music.

Panelists will discuss how the ruling affected later infringement claims, the role of expert testimony, and what the current legal landscape means for songwriters, producers, and publishers. The event also will cover recent cases that continue to test the line between inspiration and copying.

Attorneys attending can earn continuing legal education credit. The firm said the discussion is aimed at lawyers who work with entertainment clients or handle intellectual property matters. Registration is required for both in-person and online participation.
