Local College Secures State Grant to Grow Apprenticeship Programs

Local College Secures State Grant to Grow Apprenticeship Programs

A regional college in northern Pennsylvania has been awarded state funding aimed at expanding technical education and apprenticeship opportunities for students.

The grant, announced on October 20, comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The funding is part of a broader state effort to strengthen workforce development and connect students with hands-on training in fields tied to transportation and infrastructure.

Officials said the money will help the college develop and grow apprenticeship programs that give students direct experience with employers while they complete their coursework. The approach is designed to address persistent labor shortages in technical trades and give graduates a clearer path into well paying jobs.

The college plans to use the grant to build out training capacity, update equipment, and expand partnerships with local businesses and agencies that can host apprentices. School leaders described the award as an investment in both students and the regional economy, noting that many graduates stay in the area and fill critical roles.

State officials have emphasized that technical education grants are meant to close the gap between classroom instruction and the skills employers actually need. Programs supported by the funding are expected to emphasize real world experience, safety training, and industry recognized credentials.

College representatives said more details about enrollment and program timelines will be shared as the plan moves forward.
