The Sitka School Board has taken a decisive step in advocating for enhanced education funding by endorsing legislation that aims to provide the first major boost to statewide school funding in nearly a decade. During its regular meeting on February 5, the board introduced a resolution supporting House Bill 69, which seeks to address the longstanding financial challenges faced by schools across the state.
The board's resolution highlights the critical need for increased funding to ensure that students receive a quality education and that schools can meet their operational needs. With many districts struggling to maintain programs and resources, the Sitka School Board's support for this bill underscores the urgency of the situation.
Board members expressed their commitment to collaborating with state legislators to secure the necessary funding, emphasizing that investing in education is vital for the future of students and the community. The resolution serves as a strong message to lawmakers about the importance of prioritizing educational funding in the upcoming legislative session.
