Oklahoma's higher education regents have successfully secured a fifth consecutive multi-year federal grant through the GEAR UP program, aimed at enhancing college readiness among students in rural districts. This initiative focuses on providing vital resources and support to help students navigate the often complex pathways to higher education.
The GEAR UP program, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is dedicated to increasing the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. Over the years, this funding has facilitated various programs, including academic tutoring, college visits, and workshops that educate families about the college application process.
With this renewed grant, Oklahoma aims to continue fostering a culture of college readiness and academic achievement in underserved areas. The funding will enable schools to implement innovative strategies that empower students, ensuring they have the tools and support needed to pursue higher education and achieve their academic goals.
